Superintendent Jeffrey D. Jordan, Ed.D., announces his retirement

COVINA, CALIF., September 23, 2024 – Superintendent Jeffrey D. Jordan, Ed.D., announces his retirement from the Charter Oak Unified School District (COUSD), effective January 1, 2025. After a distinguished career spanning more than 34 years in K-12, Dr. Jordan will be stepping down from his role as the district’s leader.

Dr. Jordan previously served as a teacher, coach, principal, and district administrator before joining COUSD in 2019. As superintendent, he has been instrumental in driving positive change and fostering a strong educational environment. Under Dr. Jordan’s leadership, the district has achieved significant milestones, including:

  • Improving educational technology: The district has invested in state-of-the-art technology infrastructure, providing students with access to up-to-date Chromebooks and strong broadband connectivity in all classrooms.
  • Upgrading facilities: District facilities have been modernized with visitor management systems, high-resolution cameras, and advanced communication systems.
  • Expanding mental health support: The district has prioritized mental health services for students, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to succeed academically and emotionally.
  • Stabilizing the budget: Dr. Jordan has successfully managed the district's finances, ensuring competitive compensation for all employees.
  • Prioritizing student academic support: The district has implemented programs to enhance academic achievement and provide individualized support through the Charter Oak Promise.
  • Cultivating a positive culture: The Superintendent has fostered a positive and inclusive school culture emphasizing collaboration, respect, and academic excellence.
  • Strengthening community partnerships: Dr. Jordan has helped solidify COUSD’s relationships with local lawmakers, cities, partner organizations, and emergency services, ensuring that the district's needs are met and that the district can serve as a resource to the community.
  • Centralizing and increasing resources: In 2022, the district established the Student and Family Resource Center, which offers vital resources and services to community members in need, including food, clothing, mental health referrals, assistance with homelessness and foster care, and parenting classes.
  • Navigating the pandemic: The Superintendent successfully led the district through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the continuity of education and the safety of students and staff.

"The systems we have put in place, combined with our dedicated employees, will continue to ensure that all of our students receive a high-quality education and are best prepared for their futures."

The Board of Trustees will begin selecting Dr. Jordan’s successor in the coming months. Following his retirement, Dr. Jordan plans to travel and spend extended periods with his family.
