Charter Oak USD Celebrates 130 Years of Impacting Lives

At Charter Oak Unified School District, we hit a monumental milestone this year: our 130th anniversary. In honor of this achievement, we celebrated at Charter Oak High School on Monday, August 12, during the annual employee welcome-back event. The festivities included performances by student groups and a keynote address from Colonel Arthur J. Athens, USMCR (Ret.), who presented on teamwork and leadership.

COUSD Board of Trustees President Kristin McGuire, Vice President Gregg Peterson, and Members Dr. Cristian Aguilar and Jeanette Flores joined in the celebration and recognized employee anniversaries. Representatives from Assemblymember Rubio and Senator Rubio’s offices, along with Covina Councilmember Walter Allen III and Glendora Councilmembers Karen Davis and David Fredendall, were also in attendance and expressed their gratitude for our legacy of service.

During our 130-year history, our dedication to providing a quality education to all students has not wavered. We are committed to continuous improvement and have developed robust academics, athletics, and arts programs throughout the years.

Our commitment means that today, our students can take advantage of:

  • 1:1 Chromebooks, to ensure 21st-century technology for all
  • A world-class International Baccalaureate (IB) program
  • A dual enrollment option, allowing students to earn college and high school credit simultaneously
  • CIF individual and team sports opportunities
  • Award-winning performing arts programs, including theater, choir, color guard, and band
  • Integrated social-emotional and wellness support
  • Charter Oak Unified School District’s Student and Family Resource Center
  • And many more opportunities

With roots tracing back to a single schoolhouse in 1894, our district has evolved into a comprehensive educational system spanning multiple campuses across Covina and Glendora. From our humble beginnings of educating just five students, we now serve a diverse population of thousands in the eastern San Gabriel Valley. Through our virtual academy and adult education program our reach extends even further.

The anniversary and accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our educators, students, parents, and community members. We look forward to continuing our 130-year tradition of impacting lives and preparing our students for bright futures.
