Joey Strycula, Director of Student Services, Receives Cabinet Member of the Year Award

The Los Angeles County Office of Education named Joey Strycula the Cabinet Member of the Year for Student Services. With more than 80 districts overseen by LACOE, this recognition is a major honor and a testament to Joey’s hard work and dedication.

As the Director of Student Services, Child Welfare, and Attendance, Joey’s work has positively impacted students, families, and the Charter Oak community as a whole. He is dedicated to ensuring that every student can succeed and has created a culture where students feel empowered to overcome obstacles.

He has developed numerous programs for at-risk youth, helping reduce absenteeism and improving student outcomes. He is a firm believer in equity and has created initiatives to close the achievement gap.

His connection to Charter Oak runs deep. A graduate of Charter Oak High School (Class of 1995), he has devoted his professional career to serving the district. From 2017 to 2021, he served as the Principal of Charter Oak High School, having previously held the positions of Vice Principal (2012-2017) and Dean of Students (2008-2012). Prior to these administrative roles, he taught social science from 2000 to 2008.

We are so proud to have Joey as part of the Charter Oak community and offer him a huge congratulations on this accomplishment!
