Welcome Message

February 24, 2025

Dear Charter Oak Unified School District Families,

As we celebrate Black History Month in February, we recognize the profound impact African Americans have had on our nation’s history, culture, and progress. From trailblazers in science, education, and the arts to leaders in civil rights, government, and beyond, their contributions have shaped the world we live in today.  One shining example is our very own Board of Trustee, Kristin McGuire, who sits as the first elected African American in our Board’s history.  This month, let us honor the achievements of African Americans, learn from their stories, and continue fostering a school community where every student is valued, supported, and inspired to achieve.

As we celebrate Black history, let us also celebrate the rich diversity within our own community. Our students come from a multitude of backgrounds, each shaping their unique stories and perspectives. These diverse experiences enrich our classrooms, broaden our understanding of the world, and make us a stronger, more compassionate community. We are immensely proud of our diverse student body, recognizing that it is our collective strength.

At COUSD, we firmly believe that every student deserves a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment where they can thrive, regardless of their background, experiences, or beliefs. We are dedicated to providing the resources and support necessary to ensure every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Warm regards,

Danny Kim, Ed.D.
